Two houses in Caldes in the same month of August led our technicians to define two different bait systems in Caldes de Montbui. In one, the bait stations are split almost evenly between the indoor active spots and the perimeter; in the other, the bulk of the stations forms an outer ring. The spa town has no single termite pattern: each home dictates its own layout, and the audiotermes confirms it before anything is placed.
The old town of Caldes de Montbui grew up around the thermal baths, and that age shows in the construction: village houses between party walls, rubble masonry walls rising straight from the ground and wooden joist floors. For a subterranean termite, that wall base in contact with the earth is a natural corridor: it climbs protected inside the wall and shows itself where nobody looks, on a skirting, in a door frame or on the first step of a staircase.
On the slopes climbing towards el Farell the housing changes completely: plots with gardens, pine woods nearby, porches and outdoor joinery. The colony does not need to enter the house to thrive; the garden's regular watering and any piece of wood resting on the ground, from a pergola to the winter firewood, is enough for it. In this part of Caldes the first line of defence is not in the living room, it is at the edge of the plot.
The area around les Termes concentrates the buildings with the most history in Caldes, and also the most refurbished ones. A phased renovation leaves new structure living alongside original timbers nobody has looked at again: a joist hidden behind a false ceiling, joinery kept for its value, an inherited timber floor. The colony advances along joints and pipe runs without being seen, and usually gives its first sign right in that old wood the refurbishment took for sound.
The layout of the stations does not come out of a catalogue, it comes from listening to the house. The August 2026 report settled the diagnosis and the complete treatment in a single document. The active spots were inside the home and 16 bait stations were planned over them; another 17 outdoor points close the outline of the property, adding up to 33 control points. Such an even split between inside and outside is not the usual thing: the indoor wood called for direct attention and the outline, given its length, was covered end to end on the plan.
The second August 2026 report in Caldes put the weight outside: of the system's 24 points, 16 are outdoor stations drawing a ring around the grounds and 8 are indoor bait stations as reinforcement. When the ground surrounds the home, the colony's natural path is that immediate soil, and the system is designed to intercept it at the boundary, before it reaches the wood of the house. The technical report left the full layout defined, thought out from the perimeter inwards.
You do not need to see an insect. These three are what we actually find when we reach a home, and all three can be checked without tools.
Mud tubes the width of a pencil climbing the wall, the skirting board or the inside of a wardrobe. They are the tunnel the subterranean termite builds to shield itself from light and dry air. If they are damp inside, there is activity right now.
In spring the colony releases winged reproducers. They fly little, shed their wings quickly and pile up on a window sill or by a terrace door. Finding wings indoors means a mature colony nearby.
The termite eats the inside and spares a thin surface layer, so the element looks intact. Tap it with your knuckles and the sound changes from solid to hollow. On flooring it feels like a board that gives underfoot.
In Caldes de Montbui the swarming wings show up between spring and the start of summer, on the balconies of the old town as much as on the porches of the hillside areas.

We start by listening. The audiotermes amplifies the sound inside the wood and locates activity without lifting the floor or drilling anything, and from that comes a floor plan of the property with every point of damage marked.
Then the stations go in. We place indoor bait stations over the located sources and outdoor bait stations spread around the building's perimeter, loaded with bait for subterranean termites, a TP8-type biocide. The perimeter barrier is the part most providers skip, and it is the one that reaches the whole colony.

A subterranean termite looks for cellulose and regular moisture within reach, and it finds that in a garden that gets watered, in wood resting on the ground or on the ground floor of an old house. The active spots are located house by house, by listening with audiotermes, not by areas of the town.
Yes, there is an order that works in the old town of Caldes, from the bottom up. First the wood that touches the floor or the wall: skirting boards, ground-floor door frames and the first flight of the stairs; then, the joist floors. Early signs: a bulging skirting board, a frame that gives when you press it with a finger or traces of soil in a joint.
