Termite treatment in Mataró, with the premises or the home still in use
From the shop unit in el Centre to the casa de cos: we locate the activity with audiotermes and spread the bait system between the activity points and the perimeter, with the property still in use.
Visual assessment visit included, at no cost and with no obligation. The technical study with audiotermes, which confirms every point of damage, is quoted separately and you decide with the figure in front of you. We work Monday to Saturday.

A ground floor in Mataró's Centre can live alongside termites without anyone seeing them: the false ceiling hides the original joists, the colony works on that wood while the business opens every day and the discovery comes with the refit of the premises. Audiotermes detection confirms the activity without taking down the ceiling, and the bait station system with TP8 biocide acts on the exact points where the colony feeds.

Why are termites in Mataró discovered the day the refurbishment starts?
El Centre keeps the casa de cos, the narrow, deep house between party walls that shaped the Mataró of artisans and tradesmen: ground floor with a direct entrance from the street, a floor above and a courtyard behind. Its skeleton is wood: joists spanning the bay from wall to wall, a wooden staircase and original joinery in doors and balconies. As the ground floor rises straight out of the ground, the colony has a short path to the first piece that can feed it.
The textile past left all over the city, and very visibly in l'Havana, mills and factories that are homes, studios and business premises today. In many conversions the original timber structure was kept: main beams, trusses and boarded floors left exposed or, more often, hidden above a false ceiling. That old wood, resting on walls that run down to the ground, offers the colony a continuous route shielded from view.
The commercial ground floor is the case that most often triggers a call in Mataró. The premises are modernised inside with every change of business, but the original joisted ceiling is still up there, covered by panels and light fittings. While the false ceiling stays closed nobody looks at that wood, and the first real inspection comes when a change of tenant or a refit forces it to be taken down. That is why it pays to listen to the structure with audiotermes before signing off the works, not afterwards.
Cerdanyola grew fast in the post-war years and another profile dominates: blocks and modest houses with hardly any structural timber, but with parquet over the slab, skirting boards, frames and solid doors. For the subterranean termite that joinery is as edible as a century-old main beam, and it sits closer to the ground. In these districts the check starts at floor level: skirting boards losing their firmness, frames that sound hollow when rapped with a knuckle and small crusts of soil in the joints.
Where does damaged wood show up first in Mataró?
Zone by zone, what was built, what wood sits inside and where the insect gets in. It is the reading our technicians make before deciding where the check starts.

Three signs that really tell you whether there is activity
You do not need to see an insect. These three are what we actually find when we reach a home, and all three can be checked without tools.
Mud tubes on a wall or skirting board
Mud tubes the width of a pencil climbing the wall, the skirting board or the inside of a wardrobe. They are the tunnel the subterranean termite builds to shield itself from light and dry air. If they are damp inside, there is activity right now.
Loose wings on the window sill, March to June
In spring the colony releases winged reproducers. They fly little, shed their wings quickly and pile up on a window sill or by a terrace door. Finding wings indoors means a mature colony nearby.
Wood that sounds hollow even though it looks whole
The termite eats the inside and spares a thin surface layer, so the element looks intact. Tap it with your knuckles and the sound changes from solid to hollow. On flooring it feels like a board that gives underfoot.
When do termites fly in Mataró?
In Mataró the winged termites come out all at once after a mild, humid spring day, beside a shop window in el Centre or in an inner courtyard, fly for a few hours and leave their wings on the floor as the only trace.
Activity: from March to June · Peak: April and May.
Drywood termite Kalotermes flavicollis
Activity: from August to October · Peak: September.

No flight expected
These dates are indicative windows. Flight depends on temperature and humidity, so each year it starts earlier or later: if you see winged insects outside these months, it is still a reason for an inspection.

The bait system
We start by listening. The audiotermes amplifies the sound inside the wood and locates activity without lifting the floor or drilling anything, and from that comes a floor plan of the property with every point of damage marked.
Then the stations go in. We place indoor bait stations over the located sources and outdoor bait stations spread around the building's perimeter, loaded with bait for subterranean termites, a TP8-type biocide. The perimeter barrier is the part most providers skip, and it is the one that reaches the whole colony.
From there it is a matter of checks: every station is monitored, the bait replenished and the activity recorded until the nest stops responding. There is no shortcut, and anyone promising eradication in one visit is not talking about subterranean termites.
We publish the real timescales because they pre-qualify better than any promise. If someone wants a fix in one afternoon, better they know before calling.
Total duration:Periodic checks of every station until the colony stops feeding
1
Included
Visual assessment visit
A walk through the property with the naked eye to see what there is and how far it goes. The assessment visit is included, at no cost and with no obligation, and it is the starting point when the signs are unclear.
2
1 working day, with the figure agreed first
Technical study
Percussion sounding, listening with audiotermes, species identification and location of the access routes from the ground. We always recommend it: it confirms every point of damage and decides where each bait station must go. It is quoted separately, so you see it with the scope in front of you and it starts when you say yes.
3
A few days later
Report and floor plan
Floor-by-floor plan of the property with the issues found, the extent of the damage and the treatment proposal with your written quote. It is part of the technical study.
4
1 working day
System installation
Placement of the indoor bait stations over the sources and of the outdoor perimeter barrier around the building.
5
Every 6 to 8 weeks
Monitoring checks
Check of every station, bait replenishment and activity record. The frequency adjusts to what the system shows.
6
6 to 12 months
Eradication of the nest
The timescale depends on the size of the colony. It is the real range of the bait system and it cannot be compressed.
7
3 years

What we get asked in Mataró
On taking down the false ceiling of my premises in el Centre, mud tubes have appeared stuck to the joists. Do I stop the refit?
Yes, at least in that area of the ceiling, and without tearing off the tubes: in Mataró's Centre those galleries are the route the colony travels along, and breaking them before the inspection makes it harder to follow its path. Listening with audiotermes confirms whether there is activity and where, and the bait station system fits into the works without changing the plans for the premises.
I have a casa de cos in Mataró with timber joists. If termites appear, will the floor structure have to be replaced?
No, in a Mataró casa de cos the usual thing is to keep the floor structure and treat the colony with the bait system. Replacing pieces is only considered when a joist has lost load-bearing section, and that is determined by the technical study, not by the presence of the pest on its own. The sooner the activity is confirmed, the more original wood stays standing.
My flat in Cerdanyola dates from the post-war years and has no timber beams at all. Can it affect me?
Yes, because the subterranean termite is not after beams, it is after cellulose, and in a Cerdanyola flat it finds it in the parquet over the slab, the skirting boards and the door frames. What is more, that joinery sits at the height the colony reaches first from the ground. A skirting board losing its firmness or a frame that sounds hollow justifies a check with audiotermes.
At my house in Mataró the garden surrounds the home. Is it enough to put baits inside?
No, in a Mataró house with a garden the system is designed on two fronts: baits on the points with activity and a belt of stations around the house. The outer ring intercepts the colony in its own element and keeps watch over the plot throughout the programme, which is precisely the part of the job an indoor-only action leaves uncovered.
Winged ants have appeared on a balcony in l'Havana. Are they definitely termites?
Not always, and in l'Havana it is worth looking at them closely before deciding. The winged termite has wings equal to each other and longer than its body, straight antennae and a body with no marked waist; the flying ant, unequal wings and a narrow waist. With so much old wood from mills and factories in the district, matching wings on the window sill are a sign of a mature colony nearby and a reason to ask for a check.
How far do we travel from Mataró?
In Mataró we cover the whole municipal area, including el Centre, l'Havana and Cerdanyola, and we also reach Argentona, Cabrera de Mar and Sant Andreu de Llavaneres. We work Monday to Saturday, 7:30 to 22:00.
·If you are still unsure what you have, the visual assessment visit is included: no cost and no obligation.
·With signs in front of you, we recommend the technical study with audiotermes, floor plan and report: it confirms every point of damage, decides where each bait station goes and from it comes your written quote. It is quoted separately and starts when you say yes.
·During the bait programme our technicians return every 6 to 8 weeks, and those checks are part of the treatment.
·And if your property sits right on the edge of the area, we confirm it by phone in the same call.
Mataró serves as the capital of the Maresme, and the best documented timber work in the whole of the Maresme is in el Masnou, where two homes went from the technical report to the defined bait station system.
Mataró concentrates the Maresme's commerce and apartment blocks; Canet de Mar provides the counterpoint, villas and Modernista houses where the bait system protects wood of heritage value.
Mataró almost always calls us with the activity already in plain sight; Arenys de Munt records the opposite case, a preventive treatment designed to get ahead of the colony's first sign.
The ROESP is the Spanish official register of pesticide establishments and services. It is the legal requirement for applying professional-use biocides, and not everyone offering these treatments meets it.
Technicians by trade, since November 2011
The technician who signs the reports, Sergi Casadevall Casas, has been treating termites and woodworm in Barcelona and Girona since November 2011, holding the biocide applicator licence. Visits are always made by our technicians, never by salespeople.
Written guarantee
The conditions and timescales go in the intervention report, signed. For termites, 3 years from the certificate of colony elimination, with the annual inspection included at no added cost.
The floor plan and the report stay with you
The technical study ends in a floor-by-floor plan of the property, with the issues found marked and the real extent of the damage. It is quoted separately and the document stays in the owner's hands, to work with the architect or to seek a second opinion with data on the table.
Barcelona and Girona under the same registration
Spanish Royal Decree 830/2010 establishes that a pest-control company's registration in one autonomous community is valid to work in the rest. That is why we cover both provinces with the same registration and the same team.

What happens when you call us from Mataró
We ask what you have seen and where. If the signs are unclear, we book the visual assessment visit, which is included and takes little time. And when the signs are there, what we recommend is the technical study: audiotermes, a floor plan of the issues found and a report, with your written quote so you decide with the figure in front of you. If the wood is healthy, we tell you that too: you save yourself the treatment.
